PM: Infineon's RM34bil investment selling point for Malaysia to attract more world-class investments
By Adie Zulkifli - August 8, 2024

KULIM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Infineon Technologies AG's world's largest 200-millimeter silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor fabrication facility has proven Malaysia's capability in attracting world-class investments.
He remarked that the RM34 billion investment by the German global semiconductor giant in Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) was a huge milestone for Kedah and Malaysia.
In extending the government's appreciation to Infineon for having confidence in the country, Anwar said the investment would be a major selling point for Malaysia to lure more high value investments.
"I would say look, Infineon has decided (to invest in Malaysia) surely for good reasons (either) for the infrastructure, for attractive incentives, or professional and workforce discipline.
"Because of your presence to invest in the world's largest 200mm silicon carbide power fab, that alone is a major selling point for us in the country, so thank you very much," Anwar said in his speech at the opening Infineon's Kulim 3 plant today.
Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Infineon chief executive officer Jochen Hanebeck.
Anwar lauded the investment which further reinforced Malaysia's position as a rising major global semiconductor hub.
"Malaysia is now is considered as a hub for semiconductor industry. Again, this is a remarkable feat, thanks to all the players for playing their part," he said.
